My heart is heavy.
The last 6 days have been spent in prayer for a young couple I’ve only met on a handful of occasions; feverish prayer for a family whose entire life was changed in one split second by no fault of their own.
Kari, 8 ½ months pregnant with her second child, misstepped and fell on her tummy, causing her placenta to immediately rupture, cutting off oxygen to her unborn baby. At 7 lbs, 11oz and 21 inches long, Margot June Jackson was stillborn Thursday evening.
Why, God does this happen?
“But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell? No mortal comprehends its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living.” Job 28:13
Since that moment that will forever change the lives of more people than anyone will be fully aware, Kari has fought to hold onto her life. From blood transfusions to her kidneys shutting down and dialysis, compounded by a grieving pain that can suck the life out of a healthy person, we sometimes ask “Why, God does this happen?”
“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me if you understand.” Job 38:4
Understanding why things happen in the way they do is difficult and many times impossible. God and His purpose, they are so big and so complex that a human mind isn’t capable. As fleshly people, we long to understand. As children of a King, we know the end of the story.
“’For I know the plans I have for you’, declares the LORD, ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster…’” Jeremiah 29:11
God’s plans for Kari and Josh are good. God’s plans for you and I are good.
The Jackson Family’s lives were changed in the blink of an eye. They will forever be altered.
Each person reading this will have their own life altering situations. Because sin entered the world, life will trip us up.
Are you ready for it?
Is your foundation built on a surface easily crumbled or is it built firmly on the concrete only Jesus Christ can lay?
My personal journey has shown me time and time again how extremely important it is for me to have an unshakable faith. It keeps me in my bible, in church and accountable. If life catches me off guard – not standing strong in my faith – I am apt to not recover.
Kari’s dad preached a sermon several years ago that has always stuck with me. Why do bad things happen to good people? He offered many reasons. All of them logical, but none that make sense to our emotions.
I don’t know why bad things happen to good people, but I do know the end of the story…and it is good.
